Family Focus: Key for Member Retention

All across the nation families are looking for better and more economical ways to get away from their busy lives and find a perfect spot for family entertainment. If you take a look at the most successful clubs or resorts in general, “family-friendly” is everywhere from their website, newsletter, and personally by staff. Willow Point has certainly transformed over the recent years in adopting this culture, and we continue to evolve.

When I first arrived here ten years ago, I was stunned to observe a very dormant summer children’s program in such a place of tremendous recreational opportunity. The club had failed in several attempts to spark the interest of children’s activities. Very few children were participating in scheduled summer activities such as fishing, and adult activities were mostly driven around golf. The sensational pool was almost finished, and a state-of-the-art Fitness Center was soon to follow. The vision was clear; these new services had opportunity written all over them, and I knew we needed to run with enhancing the overall club experience. Fast forward to now, and this direction of family orientation has been the cornerstone of success for our club maintaining strong membership support.

Several years ago, our tremendously successful membership drive brought in more than 100 new members, and currently, we have an all-time high of 785 total members. I would also like to highlight that during the time of the drive we introduced a new class of member in a Legacy. This was not just a “drive” category, but now a full-time membership classification. To reiterate, a current Golf Member may submit their son or daughter for Legacy Membership with the following conditions:

  • Under age 30 - $5,000 total initiation fee, Junior dues
  • Between age 30 until 35 - $10,000 total initiation fee, Junior dues

We wish you an enjoyable summer, and if I may be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to call me direct at (256) 212-1408 or email bwest@russelllands.com.
