Willow Point Welcomes Derek Montecalvo, PGA Assistant Professional
By Matt Sheppard
We are excited about this upcoming golf season as we look forward to the arrival of our new Assistant Golf Professional. Derek comes fresh off his graduation from the Mississippi State PGA Professional Golf Management Program. Throughout his time in Starkville, he was required to complete three separate internships in the Golf Business.
Having grown up in Kennesaw, Georgia, he loves the South, and completed his most recent internship at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tennessee this past summer. While at The Honors Course, Derek was able to learn under the tutelage of one of the top professionals in the country, and spent a full golf season learning all aspects of the business in a hands-on environment at a Top 100 facility.

Titleist 915 Metal Wood Launch
The 915 Drivers and Metal woods feature wide sole channels, which deliver more distance by actively flexing at impact to launch the ball off the face with higher speed and lower spin. The high-speed face insert, with a thick center and radially thin perimeter in the heel and toe, delivers more distance on off-center hits. These clubs have created excitement in just a short period of time in the golf world. Titleist’s Sure Fit Hosel design allows for sixteen unique loft and lie combinations to deliver the most precise fit available. Stop by the shop and ask about getting your custom fit! |

From the Course
By Cole McInnis
The fall and winter seasons have blessed us with good weather for golf. The daytime temperatures have been a little warmer than normal and cooler in the evenings, but really nice for playing once the morning frost clears. Most of the leaves have fallen due to the windy conditions, but the course is clean and ready for play.
During the first few months of winter, we will be cleaning and adding some fresh sand to the bunkers. Doing this requires that the sand be wet, which causes the fine debris to come to the top layer of sand so we may scrape it off and replace it with clean sand. This keeps our bunkers looking great, but more importantly, it keeps them playing better as the new, clean sand dries faster for better playing conditions. We will also be planting some new trees, which will not block views or obstruct play. These new, young trees will be mixed in among our older trees, to allow us to have established, more mature trees in the event that some of the old trees need to be removed. We will also be planting more dogwoods under the canopies of the bigger trees. Our hope is to add more beautiful blooms in the coming spring seasons, as well as aide in the nesting habits for the smaller birds on the course.
I know some of us are a little tired from all of the excitement of the holiday season, but what a better way to relax this winter than to play a little golf and enjoy the beauty of the lake? We hope to see you soon at The Point! |
