Summer Off to a Great Start!

Our first camp of the summer was a big success! Over 40 participants attended the pirate-themed camp. Participants hunted for treasure, swam, played games and made pirate clothing including t-shirts and bandanas.

Our first session of swimming lessons was also a big success. We had 20 kids attend! We are still taking participants for swimming lessons in July. If you would like to sign up, please email me at kkison@russelllands.com.

Are you looking to burn some calories while having fun? We have added another Spin Class for Saturday mornings at 9:00 am. If you're interested, get here early because bikes fill up quick.

Total Body Fitness

Total Body Fitness is a class that meets on Mondays and Wednesdays at 8:30 am. The class is one hour long and begins with a warm up and ends with stretching and cool down. The class consists of exercises that utilize hand weights, weighted bars, exercise balls and small bender balls, steps, stretch bands, and rings.

A sample of what you can expect from Total Body Fitness

Total Body Fitness includes cardio routines that increase heart rate and speed up metabolism. Weight routines are used to tone arms, legs, core and back. We always practice balancing to improve posture and guard against injury. Everyone, no matter what age or current level of fitness, can benefit from this kind of activity. Alternative moves are offered for members of the class who have limited range of motion or problems such as shoulder, knee or hip limitations.

Total Body Fitness includes a lot of laughing. We've developed great friendships in our "fitness support group". Everyone is welcome. Come a few minutes early to collect your equipment and chat with your friends.

EXERCISE CLASSES
TOTAL BODY: WEIGHTS & TONING
8:30 am - Monday & Wednesday Morning

The Total Body Class is a 1-hour session that incorporates cardiovascular exercises as well as toning for all major muscle groups. This is a moderate intensity, low impact muscular endurance class. This workout includes a short warm-up and cardio segment to get your body ready to work. We use weights, resist-o-balls, bands, weighted bars, rings, and more to work all of our muscles. The class includes different activities each week so it will never be boring. Using traditional weight moves mixed with Pilates, yoga, and dance, we will build strength, balance, good posture, and toned muscles. The class always ends with stretching and breathing exercises to cool down and loosen up muscles that have had a thorough workout.

If you have hand weights, bring them along. Everyone is welcome. You are never too young or too old to be fit and get into great shape. Come and join us.

YOGA
8:30 am - Tuesday (Beginner) & Thursday (Advanced)

Yoga is an excellent way to work on your flexibility and strength, and just about everyone can do it. It’s not just for people who can touch their toes or want to meditate. Yoga works by stretching your muscles. It can help you move better and feel less stiff and tired. At any level of Yoga, you’ll start to notice benefits quickly. Some people improved flexibility by up to 35% after only eight weeks. Improve your posture, blood pressure and heart rate by joining today!

Step-Up Yoga: Usually, we don’t take a fitness-y approach to Yoga, but so many people wanted and asked for a more challenging workout which focused on our health and fitness. So, we’ve added a Step Up Yoga class on Thursday at 8:30 am.

Don’t be nervous, though! You’ll have options that are less intense if you want to take it easier. Each week we’ll focus on a particular body area. The repetition of the exercise sequence challenges your body to go a little further each time.

Up for a challenge? Join us at 8:30 am on Tuesday and/or Thursday.

WATER AEROBICS
9:30 am - Tuesday & Thursday

Great exercise if you have any joint issues. This is cardio and muscle toning and the class is an hour.

GENTLE YOGA
9:45 am - Monday & Wednesday

Gentle yoga is designed to allow for long stretching, gentle strengthening and balance skills. We welcome both men and women to join us for a really relaxing and helpful time.

TABATA HIGH INTENSITY INTERVAL TRAINING
11:30 am - Monday through Thursday

Tabata HIIT is a workout that alternates between intense bursts of activity and fixed periods of rest. One study shows that two weeks of HIIT can improve your aerobic capacity as much as 6-8 weeks of endurance training. You burn more calories during, as well as after, a workout. There is minimal equipment necessary in Tabata HIIT, and you can do it anywhere! This is not a workout you can do while reading a magazine or chatting with a friend. Since it’s short, you work hard the whole time. Join a class and surprise yourself!

Spin Fit is a high-intensity class that has a 5-minute warm-up and cool down with 35 minutes of cardio which includes hill climbing, racing, and more. Come by, check it out, and see if you like it.

Lessons and Workouts

Our tennis pro, Tony Franklin, is available for private lessons or group workouts. Simply arrange your time and activity directly with Tony. If you need to learn and practice specific strokes, consider a few private lessons. Tony will have you hitting ground strokes, volleying and serving expertly in no time! If you want to develop your doubles game and learn new strategies, get a few friends together and schedule a workout. Rates are dependent on time and activity.

These are “drop in” activities. This means that no sign-up or reservation is required - just show up!

Tuesdays: Cardio Tennis 5:30 - 6:30 pm

Mondays & Wednesdays: Tennis Workout (Doubles strategy, games, drills and practice hitting - $10/player) 7:30 - 9:00 am, Beginner Ladies' Tennis 5:45 pm

KID'S SUMMER CAMPS & ACTIVITIES

This camp has only 25 spaces available. The adult to child ratio is one adult per five children, and the schedule includes games, exercises, snack, educational session, crafts, lunch, and play.

We will be offering two sessions of two weeks of swimming lessons teaching all levels. The cost is $75.00 for the eight days of lessons. Please call Karen Kison at 256-212-1486 to sign up.
